Understanding Your Sleep

Restless Leg Syndrome

What is Restless Leg Syndrome?

Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS), also known as Willis-Ekbom Disease, is a condition that causes strange, hard-to-ignore sensations in the legs, especially during the evening or while resting. People often describe it as tingling, crawling, or itching feeling under the skin. The only thing that seems to help? Moving. And while that movement might bring a little relief, it usually doesn’t last long. Below are some symptoms you might experience if you have RLS:

Uncomfortable Sensations

Strong Urge to Move Legs

Twitching or Jerking During Sleep

Symptoms Getting More Intense In the Evening

Low Energy During the Day

Restless Sleep

RLS doesn’t usually lead to something more serious, especially when there’s no known cause behind it but that doesn’t mean it should be ignored. When the symptoms stick around night after night, they might start to wear you down. Poor sleep could lead to daytime fatigue, trouble focusing or feeling moody and low on energy. Over time, this might increase the chance of anxiety or depression, especially if the sleep loss keeps building up.

The good news? There are plenty of ways to manage Restless Leg Syndrome!
